How to get a NYS Assistant Teacher and Teacher License?

Getting your NYS Teaching or Assistant Teacher License in any setting can increase your chances of finding a quality educator job. Luckily EarlyDay is here to help you understand the process and requirements you need to get a teaching license in New York. Here are some helpful tips to get you started.

In order to get your Teaching Assistant license in NYS you will need to have:

Once you have all of your documents, you can apply to get your Teaching Assistant license here.


In order to get your NYS Teaching License you must:

  • Have a bachelor's degree from a New York State accredited teacher preparation program

  • Pass all NYS Teaching License exams:

    • the Educating All Students (EAS) exam;

    • the edTPA; and

    • the Content Specialty Test(s) in their area of certification

  • Have fingerprint clearance to complete a background check by the state

Once you have met all three requirements, you will fill out a teaching license application through New York State Department of Education website here.

New York State will then review all of your documents, and grant you your teaching license!
